That’s another way of saying that a very good way to avoid resentments is to dump them – and in the bargain you effortlessly put one to your enemy. You have a win-win situation. Certain it is that a resentment against someone hurts not that someone and will indeed delight her if she learns of it – just think of the power you have vouchsafed her! But tell her ‘no hard feelings’, and she will be the one wasting time and effort doing the resenting — of you for neutralizing her ability to mess with your head and, in the process, for robbing her of the power to do so.
