Es tan corto el amor y es tan largo el olvido.

Love is so brief, and forgetting it takes so long.
Pablo Neruda (12 Jul 1904 – 23 Sep 1973)

Too, too true!

A love lasting decades will take a lifetime to forget – and in the end of course one does not forget.  Never.  By the same token, a love lasting a mere summer in youth can stay in memory for an even longer lifetime, and in the end, till the day of death, that one too is no more forgotten than the other.  I would guess most have experienced both.  ¡Si le gusta, lea de mi propio corto amor que durará toda la vida – aquí!

What is it Tennyson (1809-1892) said … “ ‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”?

I agree – alas.
